Stahl Crane Systems, a member of the Columbus McKinnon Corporation (CMCO) and a specialist in hoists and crane components, is expanding its portfolio with the new “SXF” wire rope hoist series, designed for load capacities from 2,000kg to 10,000kg. With its robust technology, precise control system and advanced safety functions, the “SXF” series enables smooth and safe load handling at heights of up to 12m – making it a highly attractive solution for crane manufacturers, system integrators and end users in maintenance, production, and logistics environments.

Simple installation and commissioning

Across various industries, users depend on hoists for everyday vertical and horizontal load handling. Their key expectations: simplicity, reliability and safety – and that’s exactly what the “SXF” series delivers. Thanks to its compact and lightweight design, the “SXF” hoist is easy to install and virtually maintenance-free. Its streamlined frame allows for quick commissioning, without the need for specialist expertise or extensive training. An optimised drive shaft with an adjustable flange width enables easy on-site alignment and supports future modifications with minimal effort.

Single girder overhead travelling cranes equipped with “SXF” hoists are ideal even in tight production or storage spaces, moving heavy parts at lifting speeds of up to 3m/min under full load. The “SXF 5” covers applications up to 10,000kg, while the “SXF 4” is suitable for loads up to 5,000kg. With its powerful and dynamic lifting capabilities, the “SXF” hoist operates quickly when speed is needed – and slowly when precision is required.

Dynamic Lift System – intelligent lifting for greater efficiency

The “Dynamic Lift System” (DLS) with Ultra-Lift automatically adjusts the lifting speed based on the actual load weight. In partial load conditions, the “SXF 4” achieves lifting speeds of up to 9m/min, which is approximately 60%-80% faster than the conventional industry standard. Ultra-Lift can even deliver speeds of up to 300% of the nominal speed, improving efficiency and reducing cycle times.

Equipped with a Magnetek variable frequency drive (VFD) – a Columbus McKinnon group brand – the “SXF” enables smooth speeding up and slowing down, reducing mechanical wear and increasing the service life of the hoist. The “DLS” ensures precise positioning, energy savings, and greater safety for daily operations.

Smart safety features for demanding industrial use

The “SXF” wire rope hoist is equipped with a range of intelligent safety features that reduce wear and expand its application capabilities. These include an optimized rope guidance system with integrated finger protection at the return sheaves of the bottom block, as well as an adaptive safety brake system that continuously adjusts to operating conditions. Additional safety is provided by the “SMC 4 Multicontroller”, which continuously monitors key technical operating data and automatically calculates the resulting load spectrum. Communication is handled via a serial “Modbus” interface.

The continuous load monitoring is implemented to Performance Level “PL d”, ensuring safe operation across a wide range of industrial environments. With its “Automatic Load Control” (ALC+), the controller prevents load spikes when lifting heavy weights. In the event of an overload – precisely detected at the rope anchorage point – the system initiates an immediate and safe shutdown.

Available as a complete Crane Kit solution

The “SXF” is available either as a standalone hoist or as part of a custom “Crane Kit”, ready for plug-and-play integration into suspension cranes, overhead travelling cranes, or monorail systems. Optional “Magnetek” radio remote controls (push-button or joystick versions) further enhance operator flexibility and safety.

A version with 2-speed motor control is currently under development and will be available in Q4 2025.
