Traditionally, manufacturers have relied on acid etching or pickling processes that involve costly and increasingly challenging-to-handle chemicals. Mechanical alternatives such as brushing or ultrasonic cleaning offer lower costs but often fail to achieve the required cleanliness levels.

In response to these challenges, many companies are now adopting the wet blasting process, which provides some of the highest levels of cleanliness available, a superior finish, and is also environmentally friendly. Water and abrasive media are recycled during wet blasting to make the process is as eco-friendly as possible.

The unique Vapormatt Profelis automatic wet blasting machine is designed to rapidly clean and finish wire, cable and continuous products in-line with existing production. The innovative machine is a hit with leading wire and cable manufacturers with numerous installations worldwide. The company has now introduced a patented ‘micro-gun’ solution for the Profelis that significantly reduces operating costs while maintaining the exceptional finish associated with wet blasting.

Reduced operating costs of up to 85%

The patented single or multi-strand micro gun technology delivers unparalleled efficiency for processing small-diameter, high-speed wire products. The new technology delivers an 85% reduction in operating costs, making it comparable in costs to mechanical treatments whilst delivering a superior wet blasted surface. By directing individual strands through a precise blast stream, wire movement is minimised, ensuring complete surface coverage. Each wire is held securely in the blast stream by passing through a precision-drilled hole at the nozzle exit. This targeted approach ensures minimal energy waste and maximised cleaning efficiency.

The innovative micro gun configuration also allows for seamless integration into high-volume production environments. Utilising a manifold system with a shared wet blast slurry feed, multiple lines of wire can be processed simultaneously, optimising productivity while maintaining superior quality standards.

Driving innovation in wire cleaning technology

Vapormatt’s patented micro guns represents a significant step forward in wet blasting technology, offering wire manufacturers an advanced solution that combines cost savings, environmental benefits, and exceptional performance. As the industry moves toward more sustainable and efficient surface treatment methods, micro-guns set a new benchmark for wire cleaning excellence.
